About us
Sacred Chants Kirtan is led by Rufus Achyut Juskus, along with a few volunteer percussionists, and a loyal following who help with providing prasad, loading and unloading equipment, setting up and breaking down – it takes a village to put on a devotional singing event.
Rufus Juskus is a graduate of GIT (Guitar Institute of Technology in LA) and performed as a professional guitarist in the Baltimore and DC area in the 70’s and 80’s. Through a maze of transformations and life-altering shifts of priorities, he ended up playing harmonium for Paramahansa Yogananda’s local SRF group, which morphed into chanting kirtans for local brethren (with the help of Liz Rolland and Helen Heffer), which led to meeting Amma (Mata Amritanandamayi) and playing guitar for the local satsang group.
Many thanks to all who have supported us over the years – by attending, by helping out, by spreading the word about our kirtans.
Also, muchas gracias to Krishna Das, Jai Uttal, Bhagavan Das, and Wah! for their inspirational artistry and for sharing their sweet musical connection to the Divine.
And many blessings to all who sing to the Divine, no matter what religion, what persuasion, or what label is attached – we are all in the same boat, going in the same direction, singing to the same Power that lives in us all …Jai MA!
